Olga Arara-Kimani ‘quits’ after Google-Mocality data tussle.

Google vs MocalityGoogle has reportedly let one of their own go to save face in the Mocality saga that saw the multi-million search engine company admit to using a Kenyan startups’ data illegally.

Olga Arara-Kimani, who was until Monday, the Google Kenya country manager has left Google after the Google-Mocality story erupted and the internet giant promised heads were going to roll.

Olga has been a key figure in the Google story especially within the Kenyan region and her departure leaves a void that is yet to be filled. She was once listed as one of the top 20 youngest powerful African women. Her departure comes just days after Google gave a statement via Nelson Mattos, Vice President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Ms Arara-Kimani allegedly admitted that she believes she was to blame for what happened with Mocality and that the ‘buck stopped with her and she decided to leave.

Following further research, an article on Scandal4U on how Google had handles the situation came up. One website reported that Google fired both Olga Arara-Kimani who was Kenya Country Manager for Google alongside a ‘technical’ guy in Zurich. The website however asked to be given time to confirm the exact facts behind the two dismissals.

The office is currently being run by Google’s Regional Lead Sub-Saharan Africa, Joseph Mucheru, until they can find a replacement.
