More than 100 developers last week attended a BlackBerry® Jam Session at the NaiLab, a start-up accelerator company for ICT entrepreneurs. This demonstrated an increasingly high level of interest among Kenyan developers for creating apps for the BlackBerry® 10 platform, BlackBerry’s flagship operating system released a few months ago and shipping as the standard on both the Z10 and Q10 BlackBerry devices.

This event was part of a series of BlackBerry Jam Sessions that has been taking place in the Middle East and Africa to work to provide new skills, support the development of locally, relevant content and provide budding entrepreneurs with greater opportunities to reach a local and global audience of BlackBerry® smartphone customers. The session was open to all developers but specifically targeted those who are new to the BlackBerry 10 platform or those who wanted to further improve their skills.

BlackBerry has transformed the developer experience with BlackBerry 10, creating an open platform to enable developers to leverage their range of existing skills, while at the same time providing them with powerful new tools to simplify the development process.

The BlackBerry Jam Session provided plenty of practical advice and some great hints and tips to help developers make the most of the BlackBerry 10 development environment. Developers experienced hands-on training from BlackBerry technical experts focusing on the BlackBerry Cascades™ software development kit and the WebWorks® (HTML5) development tools. The Cascade framework enables developers to create visually engaging native applications for BlackBerry 10, while WebWorks makes it simple to take advantage of standard web technologies like CSS, HTML5, and JavaScript to build apps.

In attendance to train the developers from Nairobi were Luca Sale and Michael Weitzel from BlackBerry who are gurus on the BlackBerry 10 developer environment. You can see more pictures of the event on Facebook.
