Microsoft Picks Veteran Satya Nadella To Succeed Steve Ballmer As New CEO

Microsoft has a new CEO taking over from Steve Ballmer; and his name is Satya Nadella

In an internal memo to all Microsoft employees, Satya says, “Today is a very humbling day for me. It is an incredible honor for me to lead and serve this great company of ours.”

He is a Microsoft veteran and has been in the company for the past 22 years. Satya was born in India in 1969 where he studied Electrical Engineering at the Mangalore University and later moved to the United States to study computer science at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

He has been working in Redmond, in the online services division, where Microsoft is headquartered. He has held a number of roles inside Microsoft. He has worked on Office, Microsoft’s solution to business and enterprise document-enabling solution, and Bing, Microsoft.s search engine.

He has also worked on Microsoft’s Servers and Online Tools division and rumour has it that he has really transformed it into products like Windows Azure, Bing, SkyDrive – which is now OneDrive, Xbox Live, and Skype which Microsoft acquired in 2011.

“Today is a very humbling day for me,” says Nadella in an internal memo to Microsoft employees. “It is an incredible honor for me to lead and serve this great company of ours.” In the broad letter, Nadella outlines why he’s at Microsoft, and his 22 year history at the company. “While we have seen great success, we are hungry to do more,” he notes. “This is a critical time for the industry and for Microsoft. Make no mistake, we are headed for greater places — as technology evolves and we evolve with and ahead of it. Our job is to ensure that Microsoft thrives in a mobile and cloud-first world.”
