Orange Signs Agreement With Africell To Sell Its Stake In Orange Uganda

Orange Uganda, created in 2008, and according to Wikipedia 2010 data the 4th largest telecoms operator in Uganda after MTN, Airtel, Warid, and UT Mobile with 620,000 clients at the end of December 2013 has announced in the framework of a regular review of its portfolio of assets, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Africell Holding, a telecommunications company with successful interests in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia, and Sierra Leone for the sale of its majority stake in Orange Uganda.

The transaction is subject to approval from the relevant authorities in Uganda, presumably the Uganda Communications Commission, and will enable the company in Uganda to continue pursuing its development work and opportunities. According to a statement issued earlier today,  this transaction marks a new step in the Orange Group’s asset portfolio optimization strategy for which Africa and the Middle-East remain a strategic priority.
